Savings Show & Tell - March 2

It seems I can never get my savings posted on Mondays so calling it Monday's Marvelous Savings Review doesn't really fit. So instead, I'll call it Savings Show & Tell from now on and then it doesn't really matter when I post it!

I don't do this often, because frankly I don't want to bore you to tears but every now and again I like to post my entire shopping haul so you can have a true visual of what I get in ratio to how much I spend.

Homeland: $36.05 ($7.09 on cereal & $4.99 on coffee)

Two gallons of distilled water and a 15lb bag of potatoes are not shown in this picture. I love all the produce deals I snagged. I hadn't planned on buying any of it but how could I pass it up? My kiddos love tossed salad with all kinds of veggies in it and they've been begging for strawberries for months now! I also do not normally buy soda but I decided to treat hubby and myself since they were on sale.

Aldi: $12.39

I was beating myself up that I spent $2.49 per pound for ground turkey at Aldi when I could've gotten it at Crest for $2 per package! But you win some you lose some.

Total spent this week: $151.90 (tax included)

BUT, not all of that was for this week's meals. I purchased four packages of ground turkey which will be set aside for future meals. I also took advantage of the great deal on Tai Pei frozen meals for two at Crest Foods as well as the Fisherboy fish sticks and Digiorno pizza at Homeland for those nights when we get too busy or I don't feel like making a meal from scratch. And as I said before, I purchased quite a bit more produce than I normally do since it was on sale. The lettuces will easily last two weeks and I'll freeze some of the bell peppers. And I stocked up on some special treats for the kids since they were on sale.

So realistically, I could have spend only $100 for this week on what we actually needed.

This week was a pretty easy shopping week for me. I have stocked up so much on the things my family uses on a regular basis that my grocery list for this week was really short.

Monday's Marvelous Savings Review ~

It also includes two gallons of distilled water, a bag of catfood and 2 1/2 dozen eggs, not shown.

I have to admit...Walgreens has really been playing hard ball with CVS lately. I've only shopped at CVS once (this week) in the last month but I've practically lived at Walgreens.

And this week's mid-week circular is just icing on the cake, especially the "earn $5 Register Rewards when you spend $25" deal. Be sure to view the deals here.

The Neutrogena, Stim U Dent, and Bananagrams will be stocking stuffers for hubby. The other kiddie things, hair brushes and lip balm will go in a couple of bags I'm stuffing for kids that attend Shidler Elementary School in the innercity. And all the contact solution and feminine products will be donated.

Weekly Savings Review ~

This was a great week! But my budget is a little chaotic since it's right before a holiday. I try to use as much as I can out of my stockpile and cushion as much as I can into our regular grocery budget but let's face it...when you're trying to feed at least seven more people AND do all the holiday trimmin's, it's gonna cost a bit more.
At Target I purchased two turkeys. One if for our family and the other I'm cooking for a Community Thanksgiving dinner that FaithWorks of the Innercity hosts every year. I opted for the Market Pantry, not because it was cheaper but because they were bigger. I needed both to be around 20lbs.
here. In my last video I mentioned that I wouldn't be purchasing anymore canned veggies for awhile as we had enough...these veggies will be served at the FaithWorks Thanksgiving dinner.

And the Granny Smith apples ended up costing only $1.18 after the target printable (expired).

Weekly Savings Review ~

WOW! What a week! I felt like I was hitting the jackpot all over the place.
I was elated to find that Crest got some more of the specially marked boxes of Kellogg's cereals that qualify fo the $10 Toy Voucher rebate. They are on sale for 3/$10. Use one of the $1.00/2 coupons we received in last week's inserts (11/8) and pay 3/$9. Once you receive your toy voucher, you'll profit $1.

Also, they had the specially marked boxes of Keebler crackers and cookies that qualify for another $10 toy voucher. I found Flipsides, Toasteds, Chex Party Mix and Keebler Chocolate Chip & Pecan Sandies all with the special token.

I did two transactions at Target. The first included ten glade products and Johnson's baby bubble bath and wash for $3.04. I used (5) BOGO coupons and (3) $1.50/1 coupons plus a $1.00/1 Johnson's printable. My out of Pocket was $11.44 including tax, and I got a $10 gift card for the Glade.

I'll also submit for the FREE Toy Frog Bath Set for buying one Johnson's Bath or Lotion product.
Then I did the following transaction:
The only deal not found here is the Johnson's baby shampoo which was on sale for 2/$7 and I used a $1.00/1 printable.

I'll also submit for the Temperature Ducky Johnson's rebate. I only spent $2.50 out of pocket for this rebate since the Johson's Buddies soaps were free with coupon.

And I'll submit for the Great Taste, Big Savings $5 Coupon Rebate.

I used my $10 gift card from the previous transaction and only spent $7.13 out of pocket.

And today I just couldn't help myself...I went to Homeland again and splurged...I spent $0.40 on everything you see here:
I was very blessed to find a package of Pilgrim's Pride chicken thighs marked down to $1.16. I used the $0.55/1 printable and they were only $0.06.

Also, I found a small pork roast marked down to $1.77. I used a tearpad I found at Crest a few weeks back to save $1.00 off any pork purchase. Once it doubled, the roast was FREE.

The meat purchase combined with the Dole salad purchase put me at the $4.00 requirement to use the $1.00/1 tearpad to save on a coke purchase so I only paid $0.50 for the soda.

The Country Bob's BBQ was free with coupon and I used the FREE tearpad for the bagels which subtracted $3.79 from my order although I only paid $2.19 for the bread.

And my wonderful friend Stacy gave me a $5 off $25 Homeland purchase coupons which helped greatly to reduce my out of pocket.

I didn't show you all my purchases in the photos but my total out of pocket for this week was $157.10 which is $17.10 over my budget.

However, this amount includes cat litter, collar, wet food and cat toy. I won't have to always buy the collar and toys so once I figure out the pet savings game, I should be able to fit the cat stuff into our $140 weekly budget.

My total savings were: $114.16 which includes the $10 Target gift card but does NOT include ONE Card or any other in-store savings.

And I also have enough Kellogg's cereal and Keebler crackers/cookies to submit for TWO $10 toy rebates here and here.

My Shopping Trip: Walgreens & Homeland~

There are so many great deals this week, I didn't have time to fit them all in my shopping trip today. I didn't have a chance to stop by Target and do the Kellogg's cereal deal but I hope to get by there tomorrow. Here's hoping there are some choices left that match my coupons.

At Homeland I spent $18.82 out of pocket but 10.25 of that was for the Honeysuckle Turkey I bought. This isn't our Thanksgiving turkey...I just thought it'd make a nice change of pace for a weeknight dinner and hopefully a few left overs.

This transaction was where my mistake occurred...I got so excited about getting Almay for FREE plus making money that I used a Lubriderm RR in purchasing Lubriderm so I did not get the $8 RR from this transaction. If I had used a different combination of RRs to pay toward the balance, I would've earned back $10, $5 AND $8 maing the deal a $17.15 MONEY MAKER.

All in all, my total out of pocket for the day at Walgreens was $18.23 and I still have $35.50 in Register Rewards.

But they haven't witnessed the late hour strategy planning sessions, they haven't endured the full contact tackle when you're the one about to get the LAST tube of FREE toothpaste and they most certainly haven't seen me spike the Vaseline Sheer Infusion as I grabbed the last bottle off the shelf (kidding...there's still a few bottles left).

All joking aside, I did feel like screaming TOUCH DOWN!! and doing another parking lot jig as I left Walgreens today having successfully completed Plan A. I love it when I don't have to go to Plan B!

My Weekly Shopping Trip ~

Ok, I'm gonna let you know straight up that this is not the best shopping I've ever done. My daughter has been home sick since Friday and when it became apparent that she would have to stay home on Monday (today) as well, I threw together a shopping trip at the last minute and went last night. I was really out of sorts. But I guess it turned out ok and I did come in under budget so that's always a good thing.

At Walgreens I did two transactions. One was for my family and the other for Coupons for Christ. They only had four Ragu left so I had to switch to plan B at the last minute. And while making my calculations, it suddenly hit me that I provided you all with a totally bogus scenario for this deal. So sorry! Please let me know if you catch it when I do this!!

First transaction was the Ragu, Hellman's, Robitussin and Chapstick. I spent $5.98 out of pocket and earned back $9.50 in Register Rewards.

******Walmart has programmed a check into their system to reduce the amount of overage resulting when you use a coupon with an amount higher than the price of the product. If this occurs too often, at the end of your transaction, the system will require a manager override before allowing payment to go through.

I tried to get around this by buying more than (2) Rolaids per coupons. For example, I bought (3) Rolaids at $1.32 which equals $3.96 and then used the $4.00/2 coupon. This did not work. The system still called for an override and this process added 5-10 minutes onto my transaction time. Be warned to plan your shopping trip accordingly.

Much of this trip (Glade, wipes, Rolaids) will be donated.

I had to take the kids home this weekend so I decided to shop Homeland in Guthrie. I mostly picked up items from this week's Homeland Deals list but ran across a couple more.

Also, they had Healthy Harvest Lasagna noodles clearanced at $1.81 so I bought a box of these along with a box of the linguine sale priced at $1.25. I used the $1.00/2 printable and paid $0.53 ea. Not bad for lasagna noodles.

The best discoveries were tearpads for:

*Save $1.00 on Bananas when you buy any package of Sara Lee Deluxe Bagels. I grabbed a couple of these and saved them to use at Crest.

*Four coupons on one tearpad for MorningStar Farms products. Each Coupon is worth $0.75 off and says DND.

Last stop...Crest Foods. Here I found a tearpad for "Save $1.00 on 1/2lb or more of deli meat or cheese with the purchase of any Hearty & Delicious bread, bun or roll.

I am loving all these stock up deals!

My goal during this time of year is to stock up on regular products I buy for our family so that during the holiday season I can concentrate on the extra and special items I need to buy. My husband cringes every time I bring another can of veggies, box of granola bars or bottle of BBQ sauce into the house. But as the holidays get closer, I won't have to buy any of this stuff.

Because of my stock up strategy, for the last couple of years, I haven't spent much more out of pocket for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners not to mention all the festivities surrounding the season than I normally would. Last year was an exception as we had seven guests in our home eating three meals a day with us. I did end up asking John for a little extra money then.

Here are my favorite deals from Homeland this week: I plan on making fish tacos for dinner one night this week so I used the in-ad bagged salad coupon on slaw mix instead of regular salad mix. I also happened to find Top Sirloin marked down...a little over a pound for $3.XX.

I found Kraft tearpads for $2 off ground beef when you buy (3) participating products. So I purchased three cans of Taco Bell Refried Bean ($1 ea) and then used the $2 coupon on a pound of 93/7 lean ground beef. We go through refried beans pretty quickly around here so this was not an unreasonable extra.

Of course the Keebler cookies, the Coffee-Mate liquid creamer, the bulk rice and the Hormel Compleat were ALL FREE!

And I couldn't turn down Quaker Chewy Granola Bars for $0.66 ea., Wholly Guacamole for $0.29 and Starbucks Frappuccino for my hubby for $ 0.49.

As reported on some other blogs, Target has the Glade Fragrance Collection multi-wick candles marked down to $4.49. Use the $3.00/1 SS 10/4 and pay only $1.49 ea. Then submit the SC Johnson $5 rebate and break even after you pay for a stamp. Remember, you can do this rebate up to THREE times.

Target also has Snuggle Exhilarations liquid and sheets on sale for $3.99. Use the $3.00/1 RP 10/4 and pay only $.99. This deal, by itself, is enough to warrant a parking lot jig.

And don't forget the Mott's deal. Pay $8.75 OOP when you buy 5 specified products and get a $5 Gift Card.

CVS was quick and easy this week, as always. They had everything I went in for.

The Purex 3-in-1 Laundry Sheets were free with a coupon I received as a Purex Insider so I ended up paying $5.06 OOP (I used $11.50 ECBs from previous transactions)and earned $8 more ECBs. My hubby was happy to have ice cream stocked back up!

Walgreens was a little more difficult...do we expect otherwise? But I have been enjoying all their great monthly Register Reward deals lately so I'll not complain any longer.

I purchased all the Dove deodorants for Coupons for Christ, paid $11.43 and received a $10 Register Reward that I haven't spent yet. The rest was done in three different transactions.

They were out of some of the things I went in for (namely the Purell and Chapstick) so I had to regroup once I got there. But I still made out pretty well. I started with $11.50 in Register Rewards, I paid out of pocket $16.88 plus tax and still have $40.50 to roll into other deals.

I was very excited to find the Patriot Candle and flower seeds on clearance to add to Baskets of Hope (Christmas Gift Baskets for Single Moms).

My favorite deals this week ~

Shopping is done for this week! WHEW! The rest of the week is all down hill.

And of course I took some pictures for you all....not of everything but I did want to share some favorites.

Crest still has Glade Sense & Spray on sale for 2/$4 and I had eight coupons (SS 8/23) left. After coupons my total was $1.24. There's still plenty more on the shelf and they also had a whole cart full.

At Walmart, my total before coupons was around $75. I ended up paying $23.76.

Rather than buying all of the $1.97 razors and getting all the overage, I opted to do this:

I bought three Schick ST2 for Women 10ct razor packs ($4.98) and seven Schick ST2 for men 12ct razor packs ($1.97)and then used ten $3/1 coupons (SS 8/16) which resulted in them all being FREE with $1.27 overage.

Most of these items (air freshners, razors, pencil top erasers, dental floss) will be donated.
