HOPE Center of Edmond Needs Personal Hygiene Items

From time to time I receive emails from readers asking where they can donate items.

Well, right now, HOPE of Edmond is in need of personal hygiene items like deodorant, shampoo, toothpaste, etc. They also need diapers, particularly size large and extra larger.

If you have items to donate, the warehouse takes donations Monday through Friday, from 9am until 5pm and Saturday from 10am until 4pm. They are located at 1251 N. Broadway in Edmond.

Since 1984, HOPE Center has met a community need for a central agency to provide social services. The Center was developed by the Edmond Ministerial Alliance, an inter-denomindational council of churches, with volunteers and a grant from the Edmond's Women's Club. The purpose of the HOPE Center is to meet the basic needs of members in the Edmond Community.

HOPE Center is privately funded. Their only fund raising activity each year is the Samaritan Fund Drive in December. Many of the churches in Edmond contribute regularly. They also apply for grants whenever they can. The only other regular source of funding is HOPEfully Yours, a resale shop located just south of the center. Clothing and household items that aren’t needed for clients are sold and the proceeds are used to fund the pre-natal clinic, to purchase food and other client programs. Another way that the community supports HOPE Center is through food drives and volunteer support.

The HOPE Center's name is their mission - it stands for Help Our People in Emergencies. Their mission is to meet the basic needs of the people in the Edmond community who are having personal emergencies or crises. It is difficult enough to ask for help but imagine how hard it would be to have to go to every church in town to get enough assistance to pay a utility bill. The combined support of many of the churches, businesses and individuals in the community means that HOPE Center has the resources to provide food, clothing and utility assistance from a single community agency.
