Veteran's Day Salute ~

I have been contemplating all day whether to post this or not. It doesn't pertain to saving money or hot coupons. And well...this is a blog about saving money and hot coupons. But the more I thought about it, I felt compelled. I mean, being blessed to be born in this country and blessed to have so many of the liberties we enjoy...now that's a pretty fine deal in itself.

So in honor of all our Veterans, men and women who so proudly and selflessly serve our country and keep us free...I offer this salute written by my little brother, a Veteran himself.

Why do we have Veteran's Day? (please don't say for the sales!). Most people, including myself, believe that we have Veterans Day to honor service members for their sacrifices to this country.

This is true.

However, it's goes much deeper than that. In today's current affairs of government corruption, oppression and political chaos, we tend to focus on what laws are being voted on, what Fox News is covering and what the President is doing now. We tend to focus so much on what's going on, that we sometimes lose focus or appreciation for the men and women who are following orders. We focus on when the next Tea Party is more, and on the soldier sleeping in the sand less. We pay attention to the rights that we feel are being threatened, but the spouses and children who haven't seen their soldier in months often slips our minds. We worry about tax increases, but we never worry about the homeless Veteran's next meal. We put importance on the vehicles we drive, yet forget to pray for the veteran who can no longer drive because an IED took their limbs.

So the answer... We have Veteran's Day because we all need a day that we put everything else aside and show appreciation to the often forgotten hero's that have sacrificed in one way or another, at various times, to protect and defend our country and her constitution.

By all means, continue to honor and thank Veterans and keep them in your thoughts and prayers today. Please go even farther.... Keep them in your thoughts and prayers EVERY day. Be thankful not only of the WWII Veteran who bravely fought against Japan, but also of the spouses and children of service members who make sacrifices every day to stand behind their soldier and keep it together.

I am a proud citizen of the United States of America. I honor Veterans and service members past, present and future.
